In 2017, Akia founded Pearls of Promise, a nonprofit organization. Its mission is to empower women and girls who have experienced life's most devastating circumstances – including physical, sexual, and emotional abuse. 

 Pearls of Promise supports a Girls Home in Jamaica, hosts empowerment days, educational sessions, and provides financial support several times each year. 

Pearls represent wisdom gained through experience, they are considered the gems of the sea.  Moreover, pearls speak of the wearer's purity and integrity. In the Book of Matthew chapter 13 vs 45 it says “and upon finding one pearl of great value, he went and sold all that he had, and bought it". 

 A pearl is a perfect symbol,  a fine pearl is a valuable treasure that needs no polishing or cutting by man. It comes to us beautifully complete and lustrous, created by God through nature, as is the kingdom of heaven, which only God could create and perfect.
